Carlos Sainz surprised by Binotto's view on Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari

Carlos Sainz left shocked by Binotto's admission about Lewis Hamilton

Carlos Sainz has been left surprised by Mattia Binotto's comment about Lewis Hamilton. The former Ferrari boss, who worked at the Italian team with Charles Leclerc and Sainz, said he would never have signed the seven-time World Champion. The Spanish had to make way and will race for Williams in the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Sainz is entering the final stages of his Ferrari career. He has just six Grand Prix weekends remaining in red before he moves to the British team. "It has been four wonderful years, as a Ferrari driver and to race for this team. My first wins, pole positions and podiums [he also achieved one podium as a McLaren driver] were all as a driver from Maranello. I will never forget that, being a Ferrari driver. But we will continue for a while, so who knows, maybe our paths will cross again," Sainz said in a conversation with Marca.

Ferrari will be represented next season by a seven-time world champion and a driver with multiple victories. Sainz is not bitter about it. "He [Hamilton and Leclerc are two great drivers. I am sure they will have a good time," he added.

How did Sainz react to Binotto's comment?

Mattia Binotto said earlier this week that he would not have signed Hamilton if it had been up to him. Sainz was left surprised by that. "Did Binotto say that? I won't go into that further. I'll keep that opinion to myself and I'll tell you about it over dinner sometime."
