Christian Horner is having a difficult season, to say the least: After first an investigation for transgressive behavior dominated the headlines, an internal power struggle at the team came to light with top advisor Helmut Marko. Moreover, the team are now second in the constructors' championship behind McLaren, with Lando Norris chasing down Max Verstappen for the drivers' title. Nevertheless, Guenther Steiner does not think it is appropriate to send Horner away.

It can happen anytime, anywhere, says Steiner talking exclusively to GPBlog: If things do not go as hoped, it is the person in charge is blamed. Horner is currently the scapegoat at Red Bull, the former Haas F1 team principal observes.

"As soon as the team is not doing good, it's immediately pointing fingers. I think Christian should have the chance. I don't own the team, so the shareholders will know what they are doing, I don't know. Obviously there is turmoil inside. I mean we cannot deny that. I mean it's every day, it's in the press that there's something happening there. So I think if they don't find success quick again, big success, they will make some changes," Steiner believes.

Steiner also thinks that the Briton has not suddenly become a bad team principal after the dominant season they had in 2023. "I don't know which changes, but I would not suggest that. Christian, as much as we can critique him, but the last years, he hasn't done a bad job. So he has not gone stupid from one day to the other, as I always say. It's like, they are a little bit on a down, but they are not last. They are still the third, fourth fastest car. I think let's see if they can recover."

"But then again, if you don't know all the ins and outs, it's difficult to make a decision from outside," Steiner concluded.
