F1 Sergio Perez looks ahead to the United states Grand Prix

Perez "training hard" to perform well at his 'home race'

15 October at 20:30

Sergio Perez is looking forward to one of his "favourite races" of the season at the United States Grand Prix. In what has been another tricky season for the Mexican at Red Bull, he will be hoping to put in a good performance to help his team cut the 41-point deficit to McLaren in the constructors' championship, saying he has been putting in the work back home in Mexico to prepare for this weekend.

Perez currently sits P8 in the drivers' championship with 144 points, only securing four podiums this season and no victories as he has struggled to get to grips with the RB20 many times at different circuits. However, with the month-long autumn break, the Mexican will be hoping the work he has put in will help him find some extra pace to race well in front of many of his fans who will travel to the Circuit of The Americas this weekend.

"It feels like we have had a long time away from racing! It’s nice to be back and to be heading to one of our favourite races of the season," started Perez. "It’s a special race for me, everyone jokes I have so many home races, but Austin always feels like one for me and the support is really nice. I have been training hard back home in Mexico and in regular touch with the Team back in the UK."

Both Perez and his teammate Max Verstappen have struggled with a difficult RB20 during the last few races, with the car's balance being a major issue and causing the drivers to often suffer from understeer.

"We are looking to come into Austin in a better place with the car," continued Perez. "We have made some changes in the break, aimed at improving the pace and we will see how competitive we are in Austin. It being a Sprint race makes things a little tricky, because we have one practice session to get the car right before it counts but that’s where working as a Team comes in and that’s what we excel at."
