Lando Norris doesn't expect the adjustment on Red Bull's car to make a big difference to Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez's Formula 1 car. The McLaren driver is going head-to-head with Verstappen in the final six race weekends of the season.

Red Bull Racing has admitted to making changes to Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez's cars as a result of talks with the FIA, according to the BBC. Rival Formula 1 teams had alerted the FIA to a 'trick' the Austrian formation might be using. The governing body has since taken action.

How Norris reacted to the FIA's intervention

Ahead of the US Grand Prix, Norris was asked for his opinion on Red Bull's alleged 'trick', which the F1 team itself denies having used - despite the existence of the mechanism. Norris doesn't expect it to make a difference.

"It’s one thing having it on your car, a second if you’re using it, so if it has been helping them, if they've been utilising it in the way people think they have, then maybe it will shift in our direction," said Verstappen's title rival. "But when you talk about things like that, they're not going to have got several pole positions or wins just because of such a device."

"So, I don't think it really will change anything in the scheme of things. Maybe at certain qualifying and we look at the gap in certain races this year when it's been split by hundreds of a second in qualifying, or even thousands, then you might say, ‘Ok, well, maybe this has helped in that direction or this direction," Norris explained.

Although Norris does not think it has helped Red Bull much, he thinks it is good that the FIA is intervening. "I think it's good that the FIA are doing such a thing. There's a difference between black and white stuff like this, and there's a difference between Formula 1 and pushing the boundaries and creating new things and innovating within the space that you're allowed to innovate. I think that's what we have, as McLaren, have done a very good job in. But we're shown not to go any further than that," Norris concluded.
