Stewards punish Gasly after incident with Verstappen in qualifying
- Nicole Mulder
During qualifying for the US Grand Prix, Max Verstappen had to swerve from Alpine's Pierre Gasly, who was sent out by his mechanics at the wrong time. This caused a close call in the pitlane and handed the French Formula 1 team a €5,000 fine.
Gasly fined for hindering Verstappen
The Red Bull Racing driver clearly had to swerve from Gasly's Alpine, and the incident went straight to the stewards. After listening to the French driver's side of the story and watching the footage, they decided that it was an unsafe release from Alpine.
Gasly left his garage in Q3 in an unsafe manner by his team, which forced Verstappen to swerve. If Verstappen wouldn't have done that, there could've been an incident. Alpine as a result must pay a €5,000 fine to the FIA.
