Max Verstappen and Lando Norris once again battled on track in the 2024 season. Eventually, the Dutchman came out on top, given that Norris was given a five-second penalty for overtaking the Red Bull outside of the track exiting Turn 12. Here is how the British media reacted to the battle between the championship rivals.

BBC Sport: "Engrossing battle ends in controversy"

According to the public broadcaster's website, the US Grand Prix had a controversial end. "The race was bookended by two incidents between the title rivals, at the start and in the closing stages at the Circuit of the Americas," they write about the two important moments of the race, where Verstappen got the better of Norris in the end on both occasions.

Sky Sports: 'Norris needs a miracle for the title'

After a detailed review by Anthony Davidson on their TV channel, the former British Formula One driver believes that Norris' maneouvre did warrant a penalty at the Circuit of the Americas. As a result, after the Sprint, Norris has once again finished behind Max Verstappen, losing important points.

In their report, the Sky Sports write: "Instead of closing down Verstappen's lead to 51 points - one point fewer than the gap stood at the start of the weekend before Verstappen won the Sprint - Norris heads to Mexico City next week now 57 points adrift with time fast running out for him to stage what was already going to have to prove a miraculous comeback to take a maiden title."

The Guardian: 'Pity poor Leclerc'

According to The Guardian, a real battle is happening in the drivers' championship, that overshadowed the Monegasque drivers win and Ferrari's one-two. "It was a somewhat unsatisfactory conclusion to what had been a well-fought and fair scrap after Norris, who had lost the lead at the very start of the race from pole, had come back strongly to take the contest to Verstappen. It was a valiant effort but in the bigger picture Verstappen emerged from the weekend the winner in the title fight," the concluded from the US Grand Prix.

The Mirror: 'Hamilton the biggest loser'

While Lando Norris is now in a more difficult situation in the drivers' standings, it was the seven-time world champion who had the worst Grand Prix. "Lando Norris lost a thrilling duel with title rival Max Verstappen through a last-gasp penalty on a day dominated by Ferrari. And it was one which will be quickly forgotten by Lewis Hamilton who span out after less than two laps completed. Norris started on pole ahead of the Dutchman but lost the lead to eventual winner Charles Leclerc who came roaring through and dominated the rest of the race," the newspaper writes.
