Verstappen battles through issues in Austin: Horner shares what happened
Max Verstappen managed to get the most out of the US Grand Prix weekend in Austin. While his two battles with Lando Norris stole the show, Verstappen experienced difficulties during his first stint on the car. Team principal Christian Horner reacted to why Verstappen had a difficult time, and talked about how his team's upgrades performed at the Circuit of the Americas.
After the start, Max Verstappen remained in second place, but more importantly for the Dutchman, it was Charles Leclerc leading instead of his championship rival Lando Norris. During his stint on the medium tyres however, the current leader of the drivers' standings did have some issues, he reported over the team radio.
"That was relative to the understeer that he had in the car. It was really about how much front wing to put into the car for the hard tyre," Red Bull's team principal, Christian Horner explained what happened.
Verstappen now 'happier with the RB20'
The big question entering the US Grand Prix was how much Red Bull Racing could improve the RB20 over the autumn break. After the Dutchman's victory at the Sprint event and finishing ahead of Norris in the Grand Prix, Horner was happy with the results. "I think what it's done is brought the balance a bit closer together. So this disconnect between front and rear, it's brought more of a balance into the car. From the first lap, Max was much more competitive."
"He was much happier with the car as soon as we got here. So that’s encouraging for some of the races coming up as well. First part of this triple header, a sprint race weekend as well, it's as much as we could have hoped for coming out off the back of Singapore."
