Perez comments on Mexican GP retirement rumour: 'Two years is a long time'

Sergio Perez is not yet thinking about retirement in Formula 1. The Mexican's viral Wolf of Wall Street meme on his X-account highlighted his desire to stay in the sport. Now, he reiterated once again in an interview with Mexican outlet Esto that he has no intention of leaving Formula 1 any time soon, despite his critics.
Perez has no plans to leave Formula 1 just yet, despite the criticism he regularly receives for his performance. 'Checo' has scored 150 points this season, which puts him in eighth place in the drivers standings. He is the only driver from the top four teams not to win a race this season, which is a slightly alarming statistic for the Red Bull driver. "It's complicated to understand that Formula 1 as a Latino is always very difficult to achieve. I don't know, two years is a long time. I don't know how long I will continue after this contract, it depends on the new generations," he began. Perez's contract with Red Bull runs to 2026, but whether or not he will see it out remains to be seen.

"I've always said it, they have to be very young in Europe to have a chance, and we see more and more Mexican drivers coming up. I hope we have another Mexican driver soon," the Guadalajara-born driver added. A rumour surfaced during the three-week Formula 1 break that Perez would announce his retirement during the Mexican Grand Prix weekend.
Perez responded to this rumour with a hilarious response on his social media page, but since then, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has made a striking statement. 'We will see,' the 81-year-old Austrian said cryptically when asked about Perez's future.
