Vasseur confirms Ferrari will bring more upgrades "if we have good options"
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has confirmed that Ferrari will bring more upgrades to the SF-24 if there are "good options" available. It comes after the most recent upgrades that were fitting to the Scuderia allowed Charles Leclerc to take his third win of the 2024 season, finishing ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz for Ferrari's first 1-2 in Formula 1 for the first time since 2006.
There have been bright moments for the Prancing Horse this season thanks to Leclerc, taking victory at his home race at the Monaco Grand Prix, and then winning in from of the wild Tifosi at the Italian Grand Prix. Those wins have also shown that Ferrari have had the pace to challenge right at the front of the grid, but poor race pace has cost them dearly.
However, those upgrades came to life at the United States Grand Prix, with the Italian team able to race away from both McLaren and Red Bull, and they will now look to make a late charge for the constructors' title at the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend.
Vasseur says the Mexican Grand Prix is "a one-off"
However, team boss Vasseur knows that the race weekend in Mexico City will be much tougher for his team than at the Circuit of The Americas last week: "The next one is a one-off. With the altitude, it's a big challenge in terms of cooling for the brakes, for the engine, and so on."
The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City sits at 2,285 meters above sea level, making it the highest F1 track in the world, and giving teams and drivers yet another aspect that they have to take into account this weekend. But will Ferrari's upgrades work just as well at the high altitude? Vasseur explained: "I think Brazil will be more in line with Austin, probably."
But there could be even more upgrades coming to Ferrari before the 2024 season concludes as they look to take the constructors title fight right to the end of the season: "Regarding the upgrades, if we have good options, we will do our best to bring something. But it will probably be more now for, not Vegas, but Qatar," concluded the French team boss.
