Former Dutch racing driver Robert Doornbos believes Ferrari might be looking at Lewis Hamilton's performances and start to regret signing the seven-time World Champion. Doornbos, who completed three Grands Prix for Red Bull Racing in 2006, expects Hamilton to be looking forward to the move to the Italian team.

Hamilton and Ferrari announced their deal for the 2025 Formula 1 season before the 2024 season even start. The move created lots of anticipation and is now starting to become a reality. Hamilton has just five Grands Prix left with Mercedes.

Hamilton had a frustrating weekend at the United States Grand Prix. The British driver finished qualifying as the 19th fastest driver, and then spun during the Grand Prix. He retired early, while his future team secured their first one-two on USA soil since 2006.

Doornbos thinks Ferrari regrets Hamilton

"Hamilton will have looked at Ferrari's results in Austin with happiness. While Ferrari may have to be thinking, 'Why did we actually bring Hamilton in when Sainz is doing so well'," Doornbos said on his YouTube channel.

The former Formula One driver continued: "Sainz is obviously on form. Let's be honest, he drove an insane weekend in Austin. It does seem like he is kind of unleashed, of 'I don't have a contract anymore anyway, I am just driving for personal success, and we are going to try to get as much success as possible in the remaining five Grand Prix weekends'."
