Carlos Sainz set the fastest time in a special FP2 session in Mexico City, as a Pirelli tyre test took place. Oscar Piastri finished in P2, while Yuki Tsunoda rounded off the Top 3.

Lap times are hardly representative of in this extended free practice session, as drivers had to test Pirelli's 2025 tyres. The quickest lap was completed by Sainz, a 1:17.699.

Therefore attention turns to the drivers who faced problems in Mexico. Max Verstappen could not set a lap time, after he had issues with his engine. Moreover, George Russell crashed into the barriers in Sector 2, causing a red flag. Mercedes confirmed during the session that the Briton is OK.

After his crash in FP1 with Oliver Bearman, Alexander Albon also did not appear this session, as his Williams car was not repaired in time.
