Max Verstappen speaks of terrible weekend in Mexico
27 October at 00:38

Max Verstappen heads into the Mexican Grand Prix with question marks. After a 'terrible' weekend, Verstappen will start from second place, but the Dutchman does not have high hopes for that race.

"Yeah, yesterday [Friday] I did like four laps, two laps on the lower fuel and two laps on high fuel," Verstappen said at the press conference after qualifying. Verstappen had not done much during the first and second free practice due to engine problems and so arrived in qualifying without much data.

"It was basically just a complete write-off, no information. FP3 was very crucial. Tried to do as many laps as I could and, we were behind. The car was not feeling great and everything was just very difficult. So I knew that it was going to be a tough qualifying but we made some final adjustments and it all started to feel better. But to be on the front row, I think it's an incredible result for us."

A terrible weekend for Verstappen

The lack of laps left Verstappen trailing all weekend. As such, Verstappen calls it a 'terrible' weekend. The good qualifying was a surprise for Verstappen and the team, but whether the race will also produce a good result remains to be seen for Max.

"That weekend mclaren was not as strong but then in the race I think they were still competitive so for my side, I don't know, I guess we'll find out tomorrow." Asked about the long run to the first corner, Verstappen stated: "It just depends on your start and then what happens in front of you. I think I've been in a lot of starting positions around here. It's a long run (into turn one). Anything can happen, but I don't really think about it too much". Verstappen has won the last three Mexican Grands Prix.
