Norris says 'a lot of people are against us' in battles for the titles
Entering the final part of the 2024 season, every point is crucial for McLaren and Lando Norris in their quest to hold both titles in the air at the end of the year. The British driver reacted to cutting the gap to his Dutch rival in Mexico City.
After the two ended up in another hard-fought battle with some controversy, it was Max Verstappen penalised this time. The Dutchman received two 10-second penalties for his maneouvres, and finished in sixth position, while Norris crossed the line in P2.
As a result, Norris could gain 10 important points on his rival. "I'm 47 behind still. So it doesn't feel like I'm much closer than what I was. But every point helps," the Briton reacted following the Grand Prix.
"Charles got the fastest lap at the end so at one point they took away from me. I'm just doing my own thing and focusing, and as a team we're doing our own thing and focusing on ourselves. A lot of people are against us but we'll keep pushing forward," he added.
This time, it was not Daniel Ricciardo who took the point for the fastest lap away from Norris (although Sergio Perez was given a set of soft tyres at the end of the race), but Charles Leclerc, as Ferrari wanted that additional point because of the battle in the constructors' standings. McLaren still lead in that championship, but now, Ferrari are the in second place, only 29 points behind the Woking-based team.
