Disappointed Jos Verstappen expects little from Max in Sprint
Jos Verstappen has little hope for his son to achieve great results during the rest of the weekend at Interlagos, after Max Verstappen finished in P4 in sprint qualifying on Friday. The former F1 driver reacted to Viaplay after today's session.
Jos Verstappen names issues with the RB20
"In the end, it's disappointing. Surely we are short of time. Fourth is not good enough," Jos Verstappen reacted to his son's result to Viaplay. The younger Verstappen still seemed to be able to keep up with the McLarens in Sector 1, but he lost a lot of ground later in Sector 2.
"That's also where most of the corners are. One corner he has understeer and the next corner then he is up against oversteer. There's just no balance in that car. He (Max) says 'where I have understeer I can't attack the corner', and there he just loses a lot of time. That's not good," Verstappen Sr. said about the RB20.
"There (on the mediums) he also lost four tenths and on the soft (tyres) it was three tenths. He also says, 'it's just not going'." According to the former Benetton driver, long runs will not be better either: "He was quite satisfied with that, but then when you see what the rest are doing.... If you are already four tenths short on one lap, you are going to be short on a long run too. You don't need to study for [understanding] that."
