Lando Norris asks for team orders at McLaren in sprint race

Is Norris annoyed with Piastri? 'Thought we spoke about this'

Lando Norris sounded annoyed over the team radio during the sprint race when he sat behind his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri. The Australian kept the door closed at turn one and stayed ahead.

Given the World Championship standings, Norris needs to score as many points as possible to bridge a 47-point gap, and time is running out. With Verstappen behind in the sprint race, Norris senses a good chance to chip away at the gap, but he has his teammate ahead of him. Piastri is leading the sprint.

Piastri hinted that he would be open to giving up the lead to help his teammate out, but nothing happened in the early part of the race. Norris seemed to think the plan was a bit different. "I'm not sure what I'm doing here, mate. I thought we spoke about this," Norris told his race engineer, Will Joseph. He replied: "Keep doing what you're doing."

Later in the race, Piastri was told to give Norris DRS to help the British driver keep Charles Leclerc in his mirrors. Because of this threat from Leclerc, McLaren drivers were told to hold positions until the last lap. Follow the liveblog here.
