The Brazilian Grand Prix was over before it started for Alex Albon. At least, that is what the Williams driver thinks. Albon crashed heavily during Q3. The incident was heavy, and the huge damage to his car gives his Williams mechanics a mountain to climb before the race in a few hours.

"I'm out for sure. There's no way," Albon said to Viaplay. Williams is yet to announce whether or not Alex Albon will compete in the race, but it's looking unlikely. An assessment of the damage will take place first, and an announcement will soon be made.

The cause of Albon's crash is still unclear:

"I don't know. I think we had a failure on the car. Immediately the car had some rear locking and that was game over straight away. So, it’s just been a bit of a sh*t moment in the year so far. So let's see." He revealed.

The Thai driver was one of five who crashed in qualifying. Franco Colapinto, Carlos Sainz, Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso also damaged their cars in qualifying in separate incidents. Carlos Sainz will start the race from the pitlane, and Aston Martin and Williams mechanics have a busy few hours in front of them before today's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Update from Williams

It is not only uncertain whether Alex Albon will start the Grand Prix, but also his teammate Franco Colapinto after both crashes in qualifying earlier in the day. The team reports: "Following the separate incidents for Alex and Franco, both cars have extensive damage and are being examined. We will do our utmost to have the cars ready for the race, but it will be difficult for Alex's car given the damage."
