FIA announce the changes to cars for the Brazilian Grand Prix
3 November at 14:25

After five red flags created a chaotic qualifying session, there have been many changes made to cars before the Brazilian Grand Prix. Torrential rain in Sao Paulo meant that the qualifying session that was abandoned yesterday took place today and saw many drivers crash into the barriers as they struggled to keep their car on the tarmac. The conditions are expected to stay the same for the Grand Prix later in the day, meaning changes have been made up and down the grid.

Only Sainz to start in the pits

The biggest news is that Carlos Sainz's Ferrari will be forced to start the Grand Prix at Interlagos from the pit lane. The Spaniard was one of the five drivers to bring out the red flag due to a collision in qualifying, and as a result of damaging his gearbox in the incident, it will have to be replaced.

Changes have also been made to the Williams' of Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto who both crashed out of qualifying too. It is still unknown whether either of them will be able to race as their mechanics work on fixing their cars, but no damage has been recorded to their gearboxes, meaning they will not have to start from the pitlane if their cars are repaired before the start of the race.

Other changes that have been made are by Mercedes, with George Russell's car only needing to change the front and rear brake friction material, meaning there is o worry about starting from the pitlane. Oscar Piastri only needs to make changes to his front brake callipers, meaning he will also be free from a pit lane start. The full list of changes made is below.
