Verstappen takes a mind-blowing F1 record away from Schumacher
Max Verstappen has taken an astonishing record from Michael Schumacher. The Red Bull Racing driver has now led the Formula 1 World Championship for 897 consecutive days and, therefore, beats the record previously set by seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher during his successful days at Ferrari.
Verstappen has led the Formula 1 World Championship since the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix on May 22, 2022. The Dutchman seems likely to extend that run until at least March 5 2025.
Verstappen is set to smash Schumacher's record
Verstappen now has one hand on the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship, and it is unlikely Lando Norris will be able to overtake him before the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season. Therefore, Verstappen is likely to keep the run going until at least the first round in the Formula 1 World Championship, which is [after the Brazilian GP] is another 121 days away. Verstappen is likely to take the record beyond 1,000 days.
Schumacher's record lasted more than 20 years. The German was in the lead for a total of 896 days from September 2000 to March 2003. Incidently, Schumacher won the title again in 2003 and 2004 but was briefly knocked off the top of the standings.
