F1 Today | Verstappen Sr. bites at British media, and Sauber 2025 rumours

4 November at 21:00

The day after what was a scintillating performance from Max Verstappen at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and that has garnered a lot of credit from many people as he takes a giant leap towards title number four. Along with that, Jos Verstappen snaps back at the British media that were very critical of his son's racing in the past Grands Prix, and there are big rumours at Sauber that they may have finalised their second driver for 2025.

Praise from team bosses to ex-drivers for Verstappen

Of course, the main talking point is still the performance that Max Verstappen put in at Interlagos on Sunday, moving from P17 to the race victory, while Lando Norris could only go from pole position to P6. The Dutchman mastered the conditions, and it was one of the great F1 drives.

That is how team principal Christian Horner branded Verstappen's win, also highlighting his "mental resilience is huge, and that's part of the strength that he has." Ex-drivers were also very impressed with the Dutchman's performance, with Timo Glock saying, "You can mention Max Verstappen in the same breath as Michael Schumacher," such was his quality. Marc Surer also heaped on the praise, rating his performance in Sao Paulo a 10/10 and calling it a "world-class" performance.

Verstappen Sr. bites back at British media

Before this race weekend, there has been some criticism that went Verstappen's way, especially after his Mexico exploits that saw him get two ten-second time penalties for forcing Lando Norris off the track.

However, after the brilliant performance in Brazil, Verstappen noticed that there was little to no British media in the post-race press conference, while Jos Verstappen said that "they will keep their big mouths shut" after his son's stunning performance. A big weekend in terms of championship damage, and retaliation in the perfect way for Max Verstappen.

Sauber close to signing their second driver for 2025

Just two seats remain open for the 2025 season. One is the VCARB seat which still has plenty of questions surrounding it, as the future of Sergio Perez continues to be questioned. The other is the second seat at Sauber, who will become Audi in 2026. However, that seat may be close to being announced.

There have been lots of talks and rumours surrounding who will get that seat alongside Nico Hulkenberg for 2025, with Valtteri Bottas being the favourite to resign for another year. However, as time has gone on, the name of Gabriel Bortoleto has gotten louder and louder, and now he looks set to join the Swiss team.

The current Formula 2 championship leader has shown great promise with some brilliant performances, and when asked about the intensifying rumours of the McLaren junior driver, team principal Andrea Stella said that "conversations are being finalised" between the two sides to allow the Brazilian to join Sauber.
