Lewis Hamilton announced that the Ayrton Senna tribute that he took part in at the Brazilian Grand Prix was one of the "best things" in his career. In what was a very tricky weekend for the seven-time world champion at Inrerlagos, there was a bright moment in the weekend, taking part in the tribute of his Formula 1 idol in front of the brilliant Brazil fans on Sunday in Sao Paulo.

The Grand Prix weekend for Hamilton was one of the worst performances since joining Mercedes all the way back in 2013, unable to earn any points in the sprint race after being knocked out in SQ2, and then a disastrous Q1 elimination meant he could only get up to P10 in a chaotic Grand Prix, with the 39-year-old vocal on the team radio about how bad the W15 was throughout the weekend.

However, before the postponed qualifying session and the Grand Prix took place on Sunday, Hamilton drove in Senna's 1990 championship-winning McLaren, taking part in a demo run as a tribute to the Brazilian driver around Interlagos to the delight of the fans, something that the Brit is extremely proud to have done.

Emotional Hamilton "grateful" for the chance to drive Senna's car

Speaking on the grid after doing some special laps in the McLaren, Hamilton said: "Let's not talk about the car, because you know the car is no good! Driving Senna's car was the best thing ever. So, I'm still happy and grateful that I had that experience here in Interlagos. And I had such an amazing reception from the fans too."

The fans in Sao Paulo turned up in their numbers at every session throughout the weekend, even though some of those fans saw nothing on track due to the schedule changes after the stormy conditions on Saturday saw a delay and then postponement of qualifying.

Hamilton continued on by thanking the loud and passionate crowd: "An amazing reception from the fans. They've been incredible this weekend. The fans turned up, I think, at 3am this morning. So, unbelievable commitment from the fans here this weekend."
