Chandhok compares Verstappen to Senna and Schumacher statement Brazil

Max Verstappen could get back to winning ways in Sao Paulo after an impressive drive last Sunday. The Dutchman could get through the pack starting from P17, and ended up winning comfortably after the second safety car period.

Former Formula One driver Karun Chandhok could only compare Verstappen's victory to the best performances in such rainy weather, after the Red Bull driver won the Grand Prix by nearly 20 seconds ahead of Esteban Ocon.

"It’s hugely impressive. Let's bear in mind he started, was it two places behind Lewis Hamilton, right. And Lewis is also as we know, a wet weather master. And on this day it was only Verstappen who could just come through the pack," he began in Sky Sports F1 Podcast.

'Reminiscent of Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton'

According to Chandhok, Verstappen's result really stands out, and compared it to many of the most outstanding results achieved in these conditions. "I thought he was really trying to make a statement because once he got out in front he didn't just hang around. It was very reminiscent of Senna Donnington ’93 or Schumacher Spain ’96, Lewis in Silverstone 2008, where they don't just want to win but they want to put a marker down and say ‘we're going to destroy the opposition and show you how far ahead we can get’."

Not only it was important for Verstappen to win for the first time since the Spanish Grand Prix back in June, but it also makes a big difference in the drivers' championship, as he could increase his lead to 63 points ahead of Lando Norris with three weekends to go.
