Lewis Hamilton could get win a Grand Prix once again this season for the first time since the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP, but recently, the British driver did struggle with his Mercedes car. While some believe Hamilton is 'past his prime', former driver Johnny Herbert believes the seven-time world champion has the chance to bounce back next season.

Lewis Hamilton has three Grands Prix weekends left to complete with Mercedes, before he joins Ferrari next season. According to Herbert, the Briton does have what it takes to win a record-breaking eighth title in Formula One. "Lewis will be looking to fly out of the blocks as quickly and as positively as he can. Has he still got what it takes? I think he has," he told Vision4Sport.

The former driver who also works as a steward thinks working together once again with team principal Frederic Vasseur could help the British driver a lot. "For Lewis, it will be something fresh. His relationship with Fred Vasseur will be positive and benefit the team. He really respects him."

What does Hamilton need?

After finishing this season, Hamilton will leave Mercedes after spending 12 seasons with the Germans. Herbert thinks this new challenge could inspire Hamilton next season, as well as the battle between him and Leclerc at Ferrari. "Then there is Charles to deal with at the same time which will really motivate him. It is all about motivation for the driver. It should be a really good start for Ferrari because of the position they are in at the moment."

He concluded: "They’ve got to tweak a couple of things to ensure overall consistency but the car has got the pace to win races as Charles has proven."
