Horner certain: 'Still everything to play for' in constructors battle
Christian Horner believes that Red Bull is still in the mix for the constructors title, despite their 49-point deficit to leaders McLaren. For the Milton Keynes-based squad, it's been a much harder year than the previous two, where they cruised to back-to-back team and drivers championships. Speaking to TalkSport, team boss Christian Horner says that the battle for the constructors' championship is not yet over as the final three rounds approach.
Red Bull sits in third place with 544 points. Ferrari are in second on 577, and McLaren lead the way with 593. Much has changed since last year, when Red Bull dominated, finishing on 860 points. Although Red Bull looked strong in the first portion of the season, their RB20 slowly began to unravel, and they lost their lead. At the same time, other teams improved their cars. McLaren and Ferrari caught up and overtook the six-time constructors champions.
Horner still believes Red Bull can win the constructors championship:
Horner still believes that Red Bull's 49-point deficit can be overturned: "Yeah, it's tricky. I mean, we had a very strong start, but then other teams have hit very strong form over the summer months, and it's only recently that we've started to get real performance back on the car, winning the sprint race in Austin, and now the Grand Prix obviously in Interlagos in Brazil," Horner explained.
Despite their mid-season struggles, the boss believes that with a strong finish to the season, his team can claim their seventh constructors title.: "But, still all to play for, three Grand Prix, one sprint race still to go so still plenty of points available." Horner concluded.
