This surprising F1 stat shows how Lando Norris' chance slipped away
- Cas van de Kleut
McLaren has had the fastest car at most events since the summer break, with Ferrari also in the mix. But Max Verstappen continues to lead the World Championship. In fact ,Lando Norris scored only 16 points more than the championship leader since the summer break.
It is clear that the Red Bull car has long since ceased to be the car it was. At the beginning of the season the team was still winning races comfortably. At times, the McLaren car won by a large margin. Verstappen, however, managed to limit the damage as much as possible.
After the summer break, it became clear that Red Bull's problem was really big. At Zandvoort, Norris won overwhelmingly, and in Italy, too, the RB20 was simply not fast enough. Red Bull has since improved Verstappen's car's balance.
Norris failed to make gains
Yet Verstappen managed to limit the damage. Since the summer break, Verstappen has scored 116 points. That is only 16 points less than Norris. This means that the Briton made up an average of just 2.29 points per Grand Prix since the summer break. Leclerc scored 130 points since the summer break, meaning he made up an average of only 2 points per race weekend.
