Jos Verstappen 'Didn't know if Max would come out on top'
- Cas van de Kleut
Ever since he was a little boy, 3x world champion Max Verstappen has been interested in motorsports. His father, Jos Verstappen, is a former Formula 1 driver who competed during Max's early years. In an interview with Speaking to Verstappen.com, Jos explained that Max had always been around cars due to his F1 career.
Max Verstappen is now a three-time world champion and, after this weekend, possibly a four-time world champion. He dreamed of becoming a driver before he made it to Formula 1. In his karting years, the Dutchman won a considerable amount, eventually making his debut in the king class of motorsport at the age of 17.
Jos Verstappen on Max's early passion for motorsport
Verstappen Sr. told us that he had a passion for motorsport early on. With Max, this started even earlier. "As a baby, Max was already playing with toy cars, and once he started to understand things a bit, he would watch Formula 1 on television," Jos began. "From a young age, he realised that I was a racing driver."
Despite his wishes for Max to wait a little longer, Max began racing at a young age. Max showed potential and talent, of course; at that time, there was no guarantee of a future in Formula 1: "You never really know if you'll make it to the top. He was always in the running for victories, but whether you reach the top depends on many factors. You have to deliver the right results at the right times."
