Perez's dad after dig at Stroll: 'Checo is the world's most famous person'

Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing's external advisor, makes no secret of it. The Austrian has said several times that Red Bull will decide after the current season which driver will drive at which of the two teams in 2025. So Sergio Perez's position alongside Max Verstappen is not certain. But Antonio Perez Garibay, the driver's father, does not believe any of this at all.
According to Perez senior, his son belongs in Formula 1 and has come so far purely on talent. "I am not Mr. Stroll. I do not have the money to buy a Formula 1 team and we do not have the capital to be there. Checo is there [in F1] for him, for him and for him, he came for him, he is there for him and his position is there for him. All the others, we know that sponsors are needed," Antonio Perez Garibay stated in conversation with ESPN.
The politician then goes on to say that his son does need the support of sponsors and his compatriots. "Right now, Checo Perez is the most famous person in this country, in the world and in Latin America. He has caused a revolution. Everyone has to earn his place. I am not for or against anyone, but he is already there (in F1)," he said.
'Sergio Perez's best is yet to come'
The Mexican reiterated that Perez will continue to race for Red Bull Racing in 2025. "We have Checo Pérez for the next two years, and the best of Checo Pérez we have not seen yet, the only thing I can say is that today he is a sub champion, something that we had never had in our country, which is twice world champion in constructors, something that we had never had in Mexico."
