Horner about Verstappen: 'No one had won as many races as him'

While Christian Horner does not want to celebrate the championship prematurely, he does want to speak about Max Verstappen's history of success. Speaking to F1TV, he had nice words for the current world champion.

After the Brazilian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen is closer than ever to his fourth world title. However, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner does not want to celebrate too soon. ''We are not going to assume anything until it is really done,''. That doesn't stop Horner from being proud of Verstappen's performance despite the state of the RB20 this season.

Praise for Verstappen

''Max was brilliant this year. He has driven great races, like in Brazil just a few weeks ago. As a team, we have never lost sight of what the goal is. We have had tough moments this season. During the summer, it was tough. McLaren came back hard, Ferrari was there and sometimes even Mercedes. However, in the last races, we found some performance again, and Max never let his head hang. On days when he couldn't win, he still drove to the podium. He has been hugely consistent.''

''He has been exceptional. I think he has won more races than any other driver could have won. We had a good start this year, but then they came back strongly. We still have three races to go with a lot of points to distribute, but there is no driver who deserves it more than Max this year,'' Horner concluded.
