The hot topic around Red Bull Racing has been not having a special rear wing for a track like Las Vegas. Max Verstappen lacks top speed compared to his rivals, because the RB20 has a 'normal' one fitted, that was created for regular tracks. Therefore, having higher top speed is missing.

Verstappen already expressed his wish to have a different, more efficient rear wing created specifically for tracks like Monza and Las Vegas. However, his team decided to invest their money into other parts under the cost cap. "Now we might have to evaluate whether that should always be the case. Because in the end you do give away free lap time in at least two race weekends a year," Verstappen told Dutch press in Las Vegas, including GPblog.

Verstappen also addressed the international media in Las Vegas. He once again underlined that they should evaluate again whether they should make a special rear wing. However, he also said: "But on the other hand, there's only one more year left with these rules. And I don't know if it makes sense [to make such a wing yet]," he said.

Verstappen not thinking of victory in Las Vegas

Verstappen does not expect to fight for the victory in Las Vegas, as a result of the aforementioned speed difference. "Hopefully, I can fight with an Alpine. I don't think at the moment I can fight with Ferrari or Mercedes, they've been too quick. And of course Lewis is starting P10, so he will move forward. And with McLaren, I don't know, both of us were struggling a bit in the long run, but they made some changes, we made some changes, so we have to wait and see how that will go," Verstappen concluded in the US.
