F1 Today | Exclusive Cadillac news, and more Verstappen title reaction

26 November at 22:00

Yesterday, the huge news came out that Cadillac would join the F1 grid for the 2026 season. Today, GPblog exclusively spoke to the new director of the board Mario Andretti as they look for drivers and an engine supplier for when they join Formula 1. Also, the F1 world is still reacting to Max Verstappen sealing his fourth consecutive drivers' title.

Andretti exclusively reveals Cadillac's driver and engine ambitions

Yesterday, after repeated attempts, Cadillac and General Motors had an accepted bid by F1 to allow them to join the grid for the 2026 season. After a bid was rejected under the name 'Andretti F1', the American company reshaped their top team, meaning Michael Andretti was moved to a smaller role as a result. Now, Cadillac F1 have been accepted, and Mario Andretti, the 1978 world champion, will be a part of that top team.

Today, the American spoke in an exclusive interview with GPblog, and he first spoke about which drivers the team will be looking to sign to make up their lineup. One name was mentioned, and it was Colton Herta. The 24-year-old American is just short of the required F1 Super Licence, but the current IndyCar Andretti Global driver is someone who could be named as their driver for 2026. No second driver was named, but Andretti said they are looking for "a very experienced" driver.

Another question that will need answering before the 2026 season gets underway is what engine manufacturer the American team will use. There is the hope that Cadillac themselves will become a works team, but that only looks to be happening by 2028 at the earliest. However, Andretti said it is expected that Ferrari will temporarily sell their power units to the team.

Andretti and Cadillac also dream big in F1, and aim to win Grands Prix and become world champions in the competition, having committed long-term. Read a longer interview article here!

Button and Hulkenberg react to Verstappen's title win

Along with the breaking Cadillac news, the F1 world is still reacting to their title winner, and once again, it was Max Verstappen. The Dutchman earned his fourth consecutive world title, winning it at the Las Vegas Grand Prix after finishing ahead of challenger Lando Norris.

2009 world champion Jenson Button was extremely complimentary of the clever way Verstappen has driven to win his latest title. "He's an extreme talent. When you watch Max on track, he seemed calm in trying to get as many points as he could, not getting stressed about not having the quickest car. He got it into his head 'I'm not going to win another race, I'm just going to do the best I can every race'. And I think the last race in Brazil, just wow, and knocked it out with that win. That's what finalised it."

Current drivers on the grid have also been full of praise for the Red Bull driver. Nico Hulkenberg was the latest to share his thoughts on his title win. "What a guy! He's just so strong, so quick all the time regardless of the temperature, the conditions. Hardly makes any mistakes and always just maximises what he can, even if he doesn't have the winning car or the best car. Huge respect for that, and many congratulations to him. He did incredibly well again."
