Paul Aron has qualified on pole position for the Formula 2 feature race in Qatar. He will share the front row with the leader in the F2 standings, Gabriele Bortoleto in the feature race.
Aron on pole position in Qatar F2
The Formula 2 season resumed for the first time since the middle of September. For the step-up class to Formula 1, there are just two rounds left in the season. The sprint race will take place on Saturday before the feature race on Sunday. The F2 drivers will then conclude the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend.
Aron impressed in practice by setting the fastest time. He then took control of the qualifying session by setting fastest lap after fastest lap in qualifying. Aron had a tough run of results through the middle of the season but was clearly the best around the Losail International Circuit so far this weekend.
Bortoleto will start from second place, with Victor Martins in P3. Bortoleto has the upper hand over his closest championship rival, Hadjar, who will start from ninth. The reverse grid for the sprint also means Aron starts ahead of Hadjar in that event. Just 4.5 points separate the two drivers.
Future Formula 1 drivers Oliver Bearman and Kimi Antonelli will start from P10 and P11, respectively.
