Yet another Perez elimination in the first part of qualifying in Qatar
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
Sergio Perez is out in the first part of qualifying yet again in 2024. During sprint qualifying in Qatar, it was the same story, with another disappointing performance deraling the Mexican's weekend. Conversely, Max Verstappen, his teammate, easily advanced to the next part of the session.
Perez out after SQ1 in Qatar
In Qatar, the gap between Verstappen and Perez was wide. Perez finished on P16, more than seven-tenths behind Verstappen who finished in P4 after the first sprint qualifying session.
In Las Vegas, Sergio Perez also failed to get beyond Q1. The gap between the Mexican and Verstappen then was almost one second.
At the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Mexican eventually managed to drive from P16 to P10 and get one point for the Austrian racing stable. During the sprint race, Perez faces the same overtaking race again.
