Max Verstappen finds visit to stewards pointless

Verstappen believes Russell 'could've braked' in order to avoid incident

Max Verstappen believes that it would be ridiculous if he is penalised for his incident with George Russell in qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix. After the session, the Dutchman said that he'd be surprised if he was given a penalty, as Russell could've avoided such a close call, in his eyes.

''Of course, that makes no sense at all,'' Verstappen said immediately as he sat down for the moment with the Dutch media in Qatar. ''I don't know what else I should have done. The fact that I have to go there I find very strange,'' Verstappen began.

Will Verstappen get a penalty from the stewards?

Russell complained over the radio after Verstappen went slowly in front of him. Both drivers were on a slow lap, however. If Verstappen gets a penalty, he knows what he will do in the future ''Next time, I will also just drive full throttle everywhere and pretend to crash everywhere. Yes, of course, that makes no sense at all.'' The Dutchman said.

The solution for Russell was, therefore, very simple, according to the Red Bull driver: ''He could have just braked, couldn't he? I did, for the two cars in front of me, I don't want to screw them then. I'm kind of done with that at the end of the season.''

Because of this, Verstappen would be very surprised if he's stripped of his pole position. Should the penalty come, the joking Verstappen had already thought of an ideal solution: ''Then I'll drink an extra gin and tonic tonight!.''
