While Max Verstappen is trying to win the Qatar Grand Prix, a few thousand kilometres away, his father, former F1 driver Jos Verstappen, is trying to do the same at the Spa Rally. On the final day of their respective race weekends, father and son will both start their respective races in second place.

The Verstappen family are hugely competitive, so they will both try to triumph this Sunday. Who has the biggest chance of winning? Max Verstappen has to think about that for a moment in the paddock in Qatar: "I have to look at the last things he did, in the dark. That is always a bit more difficult with him," Verstappen junior told the Dutch press, including GPblog.

When told that Jos is in second place, eight seconds behind the leader, Max says: "Well, eight seconds is, of course, quite reasonable. I said to him: 'Just keep it on the road. That's the most important thing. It doesn't always have to be on the limit. Someone else can also make a mistake, of course."

Light or dark? That's when Max Verstappen prefers to drive

Jos Verstappen's rallies are partly in daylight and partly in the dark. Max also drives races in the evening hours, such as in Qatar: "I think the dark is fine, yes. I quite like it actually in the dark. But also just endurance or something, at home on the simulator. Some drivers don't like that, for example."

"Look, of course, there are a lot of light here, but when you really drive in the dark, some people are also a bit night-blind. Some don't like that so much. I like it though. It's also nice and quiet, with no one in your ear. Here there is a lot of light. It is dark, but of course you can see a lot," Verstappen concludes.
