Sergio Perez looks ahead to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Perez is clear: 'I owe myself and the team a good result'

The weekend in Qatar was another one to quickly forget for Sergio Perez. The Mexican was running in the points during Sunday's Grand Prix, but had to retire his car. Entering the final Grand Prix of the current season, 'Checo' would like to deliver a strong performance for his team, the team report.

Perez 'owes the team'

Perez realises that getting a result essential this upcoming weekend. "Heading to Abu Dhabi, it’s important to me to have a very strong final race of the season. I owe the Team and myself a solid, all round performance across the weekend. We have been seeing improvements week on week recently and the pace has been there, now we need to put it together," Perez began.

For the Mexican, the weekend in Qatar was disappointing. Finishing at least inside the Top 5 looked to be possible, but things went wrong during a safety car phase. After his clutch overheated, Perez had to abandon the race. "Everything was going so well in Qatar and the podium was in our sights. It’s frustrating for everyone that we couldn’t convert that positive position in the race into something more," he reflected.

Looking ahead to Abu Dhabi GP

The Red Bull driver is now focusing his gaze on the final race of the season. "The aim in Abu Dhabi will be to make up for that disappointment. It has been a very up and down season for me and I will be giving everything I have to end it on a high," the driver concluded.
