Does Verstappen hope to see his child race in F1? Max responds!
Ever since news broke that Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet are expecting a baby, speculation about a potential future in motorsport for Verstappen's unborn child has been rife. After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Qualifying, the 2024 World Champion was approached regarding the matter and his answer was telling.
Will mini Verstappen-Piquet go into racing?
With 7 World Championships between his father, Verstappen, and his grand father on his mother's side, Nelso Piquet, many have pointed out the racing genes of the Dutchman's coming baby. For example, David Coulthard saw a future 10-time world champion coming and Giedo van der Garde remarked that other karting kids could simply give up already.
As for Verstappen, however, he'd rather his soon to be born child to remain far away from the sport in which he himself excels at currently. Asked if he sees Verstappen junior driving in Formula 1 in the future and becoming World Champion, the Dutchman's answer is clear. "I hope not," he stated in conversation with media present at Yas Marina, including GPblog.
"If he or she wants to do it and I see that there is talent I would support it of course, naturally, but I really hope not" he adds. Pointing to the impressive DNA of himself and his partner's father, three-time world champion, Piquet, Verstappen says: "Yes, but again no pressure, just live your life."
