Marko warns Verstappen of possible suspension: 'We have to be careful'

Helmut Marko admitted after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that Max Verstappen's reaction to his penalty was "not very diplomatic". Still, the Red Bull Racing adviser can understand it, but he questions the decision to broadcast such statements.
Marko warns Verstappen of possible suspension
An exasperated Verstappen could be heard on the team radio, referring to the stewards as "stupid idiots". "He asked for twenty seconds," laughed Marko, who admits it was not the most diplomatic response from the Dutchman. On the other hand, he can understand.
"Those are the emotions and at that moment you don't exactly think diplomatically. Maybe we shouldn't broadcast everything," Marko continued his conversation with the German branch of Sky Sports. "In football, not everyone has a microphone either. I don't want to know what kind of comments are made there."
Also, it is particularly the inconsistency of the stewards' decision-making that causes irritation, according to Marko. "With certain stewards, this penalty is usually heavier. But that is a problem that everyone has and that has often been mentioned: that more consistency would be better and also better for the sport," he explains.
The 81-year-old Austrian does point out that Verstappen should watch his step after this penalty, given the number of penalty points the four-time world champion now has to his name. "He got two points again. I believe he is now on eight. So we have to be careful," Marko concluded.
