Aston Martin contracts former Force India driver for simulator work
- Ludo van Denderen
Aston Martin have brought back an old friend, with Daniel Juncadella being recruited by the Silverstone-based team as a simulator driver. The Spaniard has a past with the team, as he was a reserve driver there when they was still called Force India. Apart from some free practice sessions, Juncadella did not appear in Formula 1 action.
The Spaniard, successful in endurance racing, had already started his work at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last weekend: "I am really happy to be joining Aston Martin as a Simulator Driver. The facilities are really impressive and I can see the ambition and determination of everybody involved in this project. I look forward to supporting the team from the campus going forward."
Krack praises the qualities of Juncadella
Team principal Mike Krack is also delighted with the arrival of the experienced driver. "We are excited to welcome Daniel to the team. The role of a Simulator Driver is an important one as his feedback from the simulator will have an impact on car development and our performances during race weekends. He brings a lot of skill and experience behind the wheel so we have no doubt that he will become a valuable asset for us."
Juncadella was Force India's regular reserve driver during the 2014 season. In the year before, he competed for the Williams team during the Young Driver Test.
