After the season finale of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, there were a lot of goodbyes. One of them was for Carlos Sainz , who drove his final race for Ferrari before he joins Williams for the 2025 season. The Spaniard spoke about the final time he sat behind the wheel of the SF-24 in the paddock at the Yas Marina Circuit .
Last weekend marked the last race for Sainz in the Ferrari. On Sunday, Ferrari narrowly missed out on the constructors' title, which eventually went to McLaren . After the race, Sainz said that the moment he stepped into the SF-24 for the last time was quite emotional for him. For next season, he will sit alongside Alex Albon at Willimas next year, and he has already got behind the wheel for the British team after the post-season test in Abu Dhabi.
Emotional burden Grand Prix for Sainz at Ferrari
"Strange. A bit emotional, I'm not going to lie," Sainz began his story after the race in Abu Dhabi. "Probably, I would say it was more emotional the last time that I jumped in the car, in the grid. I knew that was obviously going to be my last race with a group of people that I've enjoyed these last four years. "
"The last time that I would jump in a Ferrari car, probably, and I was just feeling emotional. I tried to remind myself to try and enjoy the race as much as possible and to give the absolute maximum for this team," said the 30-year-old Madrid-based driver.
