If it is up to F1 and the FIA, a Grand Prix in Rwanda will happen. Led by President Paul Kagame, the African country has also officially announced their interest in hosting and event. CEO of Formula One Management, Stefano Domenicali, underlined that he will work the local promoters to make the event possible.

Rwanda has been led by Kagame for 24 consecutive years, an authoritarian President who has little regard for human rights. However, Domenicali praised the dictator last Friday during the FIA Awards ceremony, that was hosted in the country's capital city, Kigali. "I would say thanks to President Kagame's vision, there is a big push for the country to host the F1 race."

He continued, saying he is looking forward to a Grand Prix on the African continent. "But more than a race, it has to be an event where all the ecosystem is ready for what we are bringing in. So we are working very closely to try to accelerate as much as we can what is needed to be done. I can guarantee to you that from our side, we are totally really helping the promoters, [so] the race eventually here [can] do everything [what's asked], but [we have] really exciting months in front of us, because [soon] hopefully we can say something more than that."

'Interest in F1 in Africa is growing'

According to Domenicali, it is important to have a Grand Prix on the only continent that is not hosting an event on the current F1 calendar. "I don't remember figures, eight, ten percent more or less, and is evolving also the motorsport," the Italian concluded.
