It would be very strange if Sergio Perez were to sit in the RB21 next year next to Max Verstappen. Everything points to Red Bull Racing replacing him, meaning the Mexican will have to watch for at least a season. But Christian Danner doubts whether Perez will ever get a chance to race in Formula 1 again. According to the former Formula 1 driver, Perez does have two assets: a lot of sponsorship money and a very good manager.

Danner thinks Perez threw away his chances of a comeback to the premier class of motorsport due to the Mexican's horrible second half of the season this year: "He has shown so many ridiculous things this season that you say: that is not possible. He has achieved nothing. It does not matter which team boss offers a man like that a contract: the whole world would say: 'Tell me, is that an option for you, yes'. That boy drives terribly slowly, badly and only because he now has a sponsor, he is allowed to drive for you? I cannot imagine that in this constellation."

What is true, however, is that the sponsorship money the veteran brings with him is more than welcome at several teams on the grid, including the likes of Alpine, for example. "I think there are certainly some people talking about him there, because he can bring a lot of money with him. That is necessary for some teams. But personally, I think it is unlikely that he will race again [in Formula 1]," Danner told Motorsport-Magazin.com.

Perez's manager another key asset

With manager Julian Jacobi, Perez does have another asset behind him: "He is of course already aware of everything. This is a man who has had incredible connections over the decades, not only in Formula 1, but also in Formula E. [...] Everything imaginable will be done through Julian Jacobi to come to an agreement with Pérez and allow him to return to Formula 1."

That will then be 2026 at the earliest, as all other seats in the premier class of motorsport have already been widely given away.
