Perez gives worst performance as a world champion's teammate since 1994
- Savannah Lenz
Sergio Perez and Jos Verstappen now have two things in common. The first thing is that they both have a relationship with Max Verstappen. The second is that they have both severely underperformed compared to their teammates, who both won world championships. Perez scored 34.78% of the points scored by his teammate. The last teammate to do this badly was Jos Verstappen in 1994.
In 1994, Michael Schumacher won one of his world titles while his teammate Jos Verstappen underperformed. Verstappen scored only 10.87% of Schumacher's point total.
Despite the hectic season for the Benetton-Ford racer, Schumacher managed to score 92 points. This was the season he was disqualified from the British Grand Prix and received a two-race suspension. The battle between him and Damon Hill was nerve-wracking, but Schumacher still managed to pull off the championship win.
Unlike Perez, Jos Verstappen did not get an entire season to score points as there were two other drivers in his seat that season. Verstappen made Schumacher the third teammate of the season and the only one to score points.
