Setback for Verstappen: 'Once again an important figure leaves his role'
- Ludo van Denderen
Max Verstappen will see one of his four permanent engineers leave. Irishman Michael Manning has informed Red Bull Racing that he aspires to have a new position within the organisation, De Telegraaf reports. So Manning will remain with the Austrians, but no longer working with Verstappen's car.
Manning and Verstappen have been working together for many year now. From the moment Verstappen joined Red Bull Racing in 2016, the Irishman has been the control engineer. In this position, he is ultimately responsibility for the Dutch driver's starts.
From 2025, that will no longer be the case. Manning is said to have indicated internally that he no longer wants to be present at all races. Red Bull are reportedly looking internally for a new position for him. It is still who would that person be.
Manning's successor still unknown
In recent years, Manning has been one of Verstappen's four permanent engineers. His team also includes Gianpiero Lambiase, Tom Hart and David Mart. It is not yet known who will take over the work of Manning.
Verstappen saw several key people leave in recent months. Most notable were Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley, who are joining Aston Martin and Sauber respectively.
