Steward Herbert advises Norris against Verstappen: 'You should do that more often'
Former driver F1 and FIA steward Johnny Herbert suggests that Lando Norris has to be more aggressive for to challenge Max Verstappen. The Briton talked about the matter to Coin Poker.
The two championship rivals in the 2024 season, Lando Norris and Max Verstappen had many hard-fought battles on track. The two drivers locked horns in Austria, in Austin, or in Mexico City for example. With the title ending up in the Dutchman's hands, Herbert sees that Norris has to change his approach.
"Yes, Norris needs to stand up to Verstappen more often. He has been very open that maybe he hasn’t brought his A-game this year. Hearing from what I am hearing, he has accepted that this is what he now has to do, to change," Herbert said.
Herbert expects 'scrappy year'
According to the former driver, more drivers follow Verstappen's approach to not compromise in any situation. "This is a really good moment where many drivers are thinking the same as Max has done. It is going to be massively interesting to see who comes out on the top next year."
"It might well be scrappy next year but that’s what you want in Formula 1, some sharp elbows, allied to common sense. Max loads pressure on everyone," Herbert concluded. If a 'scrappy' season does happen, Herbert will be able to judge those situations as a steward, as he will also be responsible for handing out penalties similarly to the ones in Mexico City.
