Ferrari dragged thru' mud over Sainz exit: "Getting rid of him is suicidal'
Carlos Sainz leaving Ferrari after the 2024 F1 season is still a crowd splitting decision. While there are those who support the Italian team's choice given that Lewis Hamilton is a seven time world champion and Sainz has struggled to match Charles Leclerc form, there are others who see in the Madrid born #55, the perfect Ferrari driver. Former team owner and boss, Eddie Jordan, falls falt in the latter category
Jordan strikes at Ferrari
"Hamilton to Ferrari," the headlines rocked the F1 world to its very core. In fact, it was so shocking a transfer that even Jordan himself, an often well educated man in the paddock's comings and goings, did not see it coming. However, even after almost a year has passed since the announcement, the former team owner cannot wrap his head around it, as he stated in his F1 podcast, Formula for Success, to co-host, former F1 driver, David Coulthard, when discussing their "For F*cks sake" moment of the year.
"I said to John Elkann - chairman of Ferrari - what the fuck were they thinking to send Sainz away, when he had a very well-structured team? They worked well together, the drivers got along well. Fred Vasseur had a very good chance to bring a lot of success to this team," Jordan said.
"Lewis Hamilton is a very nice guy, maybe one of the nicest of the current grid. He has no problems there, but it is really suicidal of Elkann to send Sainz away," Jordan added.
Sainz has since signed with Williams, where he will become Alexander Albon's teammate. The Spaniard has already tested for the British race team immediately after the last race in Abu Dhabi.
