Bonus dad Verstappen gets new challenge: 'Your own child is different'
Before the last Grand Prix of the season, Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet announced that they are expecting their first child next year. Verstappen, meanwhile, has spoken at length about soon becoming a father for the first time.
Verstappen looks forward to becoming a father
"It's super exciting," the Dutchman began about becoming a father in the Talking Bulls podcast. "Luckily I did get a little bit of training with Penelope, seeing her grow up already for like four years. Which has been also really, really nice," Verstappen explained, talking about Kelly Piquet's daugher. Penelope, also known as 'P', often appears in the sim racing streams of the F1 champion and also visits the paddock together with his mother and his 'bonus dad'.
"But yes, for sure, when it's like, also going be fully your own [kid]... Yes, it’s going to be a different challenge. But I'm looking forward to it," the driver continued
Christian Horner has already jokingly expressed that he has already offered Verstappen and Kelly Piquet's baby a contract to join Red Bull, given that his father and grandfather at the moment have achieved seven F1 world drivers' championships. Verstappen would rather not see that happen. "I need to speak to Christian about that. Because I actually don't want him or her to go into racing."
"Maybe he or she can design future cars or whatever. I mean, you you never know, right?" he concluded.
