The 2024 season was not easy for Red Bull Racing. With some Formula 1 teams having different technical approaches and solutions, Max Verstappen believes that some of their competitors got away with breaking the rules during the season.

Verstappen: 'No one will ever admit that'

Unlike the 2023 season, the RB20 was not in top form this season. It had its struggles, which made it harder on the team. In addition to the RB20 and its problems, Verstappen believes that other competitors toed the line regarding the regulations.

An example of this would be McLaren's flexible rear wing. Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri could briefly drive with the component because the FIA halted it. Then there was also talk about tricks with the tyres. In a conversation with De Telegraaf, Verstappen said, "Things happened in the background that meant we had no chance at all in certain races. I know that for sure, but nobody will ever admit that."

It is normal in Formula 1 to push the limits and to find the grey areas within the rules and regulations. For the 2024 season, McLaren did just that. Fortunately for them, the FIA was on their side and ruled that it was within the limitations. However, Nikolas Tombazis (director of the single-seaters) indicated that, if necessary, these issues would be looked at again in the 2025 season.
