Fernando Alonso sees Aston Martin having same problems as Mercedes

Alonso partly blames Mercedes for Aston Martin problems

Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso had a dream start to their 2023 campaign, with many podiums picked up by the Spanish driver. However, in 2024, the British team failed to find their form again. According to their driver, that was partially due to Mercedes as well.

Aston Martin's problems are also due to Mercedes?

After a promising 2023, Fernando Alonso had an ever worse second half of the last season. Since the Singapore GP, the Spaniard could finish inside the Top 10 on two occasions, while Lance Stroll could not score a point after the Hungarian GP. The two-time world champion says it's not easy to see where the problems lie.

"It's not an easy solution or an easy answer, because if not, probably we will do it a little bit easier than what we have found," Alonso said in the Chequered Flag podcast.

Aston Martin struggled with the same problems as Mercedes this season regarding the fact that updates failed many times to translate into performance on the track. "I think a problem of understanding a little bit the insides of the car, some of the wind tunnel problems that I think also Mercedes faced last year, in terms of developing the car. Our wind tunnel usage is a little bit limited by using the Mercedes tunnel," Alonso concluded.
