Verstappen admits: 'Were questionable actions, do everything to win'
- Cas van de Kleut
Max Verstappen had to push the limits in 2024 to ensure he became champion. This was somewhat less appreciated by rival driver Lando Norris and his team McLaren. Speaking to Formula1.com, Verstappen talked about his take on his aggressive driving style.
Verstappen is known to push his competition to the limit just to avoid being defeated. The Dutchman fought Lewis Hamilton in 2021, where emotions ran high at times. Also in 2024, when he fought Norris, the now four-time world champion went flat out which led to controversial moments in Austin and in Mexico.
Verstappen aware of tough actions
Verstappen himself is aware that he occasionally pushes the edges: "There have been tough races, questionable moves and moments, but I know what I’m doing, I’m fully in control of what I’m doing. Sometimes, of course with a thought behind it. I’m well in control of what I’m executing on track. Sometimes it’s necessary. I will do everything I can to win.
"I hate losing. I can acknowledge when someone does a better job, but it’s still not nice to lose. That is the driving factor – we need to be better. Even when we were successful in 2023, we wanted to find more performance. It was something that definitely taught us a lot in 2024,” the Dutchman concluded.
