New Aston Martin team boss has clear target on their way towards the title
For the 2025 season, CEO Andy Cowell will also become Aston Martin's team principal, taking over from Mike Krack. The Briton talked about how his team could become world champions in F1.
"I have spent the last three months understanding and assessing our performance and I've been incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team," Cowell began.
"With the completion of the AMR Technology Campus and our transition in 2026 to a full works team, alongside our strategic partners Honda and Aramco, we are on a journey to becoming a Championship-winning team. These organisational changes are a natural evolution of the multi-year plans that we have scheduled to make and I'm incredibly excited about the future."
Andy Cowell was appointed the CEO of Aston Martin back in July 2024 and will now act as team principal, replacing Luxembourgish Mike Krack. Krack was Aston Martin's team principal from 2022 onwards, but will now become the CTO (chief trackside officer) of the team. His main focus will be on on-track performance, so he will still be present inside the paddock.
Who is Andy Cowell, Aston Martin's new team boss?
Cowell has a rich history in Formula 1. For instance, after graduating, he began working for Cosworth Formula 1 engines. However, Cowell made his name at Mercedes, where he was appointed Engineering Director in 2008, responsible for the technical development of Mercedes' engine. Five years later, in 2013, Cowell was promoted to Managing Director of Mercedes' engine division.
As leader of the engine division, Cowell saw was part of the Mercedes team that won their first title in 2014, followed by eight more also thanks to their almost unbeatable engine. From 2014 to 2021, Mercedes won the constructors' title every year, only to lose the drivers' title to Max Verstappen in 2021. By then, Cowell had already left, having decided in June 2020 that he was ready for a new challenge.
