2025 Dakar Rally: Toyota's domination ends, Lategan lead chopped
This time it was not a Toyota reaching the bivouac in first place, instead a Guillaume de Mevius led 1-2 finish gave X-Raid Mini its first 2025 Dakar Rally win, AFTER South African Toyota Overdrive driver, Guy Botteril, lost 5 minutes on his way to the third checkpoint. Henk Lategan's lead was cut by over 3 minutes, and Nasser Al-Attiyah found another gear entirely to climb to P3 at the Stage's end finishing ahead of Toyota customer, Yazeed Al Rajhi.
Henk Lategan's grip at the top of the overall standings of the 2025 Dakar Rally has been unshakeable. Sainz sr, and Sebastian Loeb have since dropped out of the competition, and Al-Attiyah, who seemed to be one of the South African's main contenders suffered a tough loss having been disqualified from the Stage 5 results after he was found to have reached the bivouac without a spare tyre, stripping him from his smashing win.
Al-Rajhi remains Lategan's top contender in P2 in the overall standings, havin cut the gap to the top Toyota man to a little over 7 minutes, despite having to borrow a spare wheel from fellow Toyota driver, Sawood Variawa to avoid Al-Attiyah's Stage 5 fate. However, this incident, benefitted Dacia driver Al-Attiyah himself, who found an extra gear to leap up to P3 at the stage's end.
Ford Raptor driver, Mattias Ekstrom, fell even further away from the top two runners having finished the stage in 8th position, just behind Lategan with Nani Roma coming in 10th, and MP Sports Raptor's driver, Martin Prokop splitting both Ford drivers.
